Hutwee and Bukununu Seasonal Coffee Now Available at World Cup Coffee
The good things in life don’t last forever, which only makes us appreciate them even more — especially when it’s great coffee we’re enjoying. For a few months this spring, World Cup Coffee will be offering a treat you won’t want to miss: Hutwee and Bukununu micro-batch coffees from a collective in the Kivu region of Africa. We offer great coffees year round, so what makes this coffee so special?
About the Coffee & Region
These micro-lots of exquisite coffee are more than just special, limited-time beans. They’re fully washed coffees grown at an elevation of 4900-5900 feet, which is near-perfect for producing the best beans available. Arabica coffee, which has superior quality and flavor,
must be grown at high elevations, and there are only a few regions in the world that can cultivate this type of coffee.
Elevation has a tremendous impact on flavor, with higher altitudes producing small, flavorful coffee beans with complex notes that
offer an interesting and bright cup of coffee.
So what kinds of flavors can you expect from Hutwee and Bukununu seasonal coffees? Tasters at our cupping noted lots of sweet notes,
describing a variety of flavors, including:
About the Collective
In the Kivu region, located within the Democratic Republic of the Congo, citizens of the Hutwee and Bukununu villages work together in a collective to produce these artisan coffees. Collectives are very common in coffee cultivation because they enable collectives of people
to work together to make a living in an industry they may not have been able to afford to start out in on their own. About 100 farmers in the region work together to operate the coffee plantation and processing, each paying about $50 for the equipment and training to
grow and process these amazing coffees.
Hutwee and Bukununu Seasonal Coffee Availability
We don’t get coffees from the Congo very often, and we aren’t able to keep them in stock for long. Our Kivu Hutwee
and Bukununu seasonal coffee is only available at World Cup Coffee during April, May and June, so be sure to stop in for a visit before this special batch is gone!
Brewing Your Kivu Region Coffee
Once you’ve gotten your hands on this coffee, how do you brew it? Come to our shops, and we’re happy to do this for you — but we also know that some people prefer to brew at home or in the office. A coffee this flavorful should be carefully prepared
to bring out its sweet notes and unique flavors.
Manual methods of brewing, like the French Press, Aeropress, or pour over tend to bring out the most complex flavors and really
do our Hutwee and Bukununu seasonal coffees justice. Need advice on preparing the perfect pot or cup? Let us know and we’ll be
happy to advise! Or, follow us on Facebook, where we’re always exploring the latest and greatest in coffee and tea the world has to offer.
